Mia Hmm. New York is bigger.

Leo And London is older!

Mia True. But food is cheaper in New York.

Leo OK, what's the best thing about London?

Mia The people. Well… some people!

Useful expression Is London better than New York? — Use “better than” to compare two things.

SceneThe best phone

Whose phone is better?

Ben My new phone is faster than yours.

Leo Mine is lighter.

Ben Mine has the best camera in the world!

Leo Well… mine is drier.

WordWorse

Bad… and then worse.

Word worse /wɜːs/ — More bad. Bad → worse → the worst.

MistakeStop saying “more cheap”

Stop saying “more cheap”.

Common mistake The bus is more cheap than the taxi. → The bus is cheaper than the taxi.

Why: Short words take -er: cheaper, bigger. Long words take “more”: more expensive. Never both: not “more better”.

SoundsThink or sink?

Word think /θɪŋk/ / sink /sɪŋk/
